What do you need help with?

Predictions and points Scoring, bonuses, when predictions close, and points that look wrong.
How many points do I get for a prediction?

The Predict the Football scoring system works as follows:

  • 3 points for predicting an exact score
  • 1 point for predicting the correct result (ie. you correctly predict the winner, or you correctly predict a draw, but by the wrong number of goals).
  • 2 point bonus for predicting the correct result if that result was predicted by less than 20% of your competitors.
  • 2 point bonus for predicting the exact score if that score was predicted by less than 5% of your competitors.
Why didn't I get a bonus?

Both bonuses come on top of a correct prediction: the result bonus needs the right result, and the exact score bonus needs the exact score.

Those shares are of everyone who predicted the match, counted once the final result is in. The figures shown before kick-off can still move as late predictions arrive, so a bonus that looked likely may not come.

The Contact Us page can show you exactly how any of your own predictions was scored, with the real percentages.

See how my prediction was scored

When do predictions close?

At kick-off. Until a match starts its prediction stays open; once it kicks off, your prediction is fixed.

Can I change a prediction?

Yes, as often as you like until kick-off. Only the last one you save counts.

Please be aware that all prediction times are logged - so we will always be able to tell if you have changed a prediction after a match has begun.

Why haven't my points updated?

Points are added a minute or two after the final result comes in, which is usually within a few minutes of the final whistle. If the result itself is still wrong or missing an hour after full time, tell us which match it is.

Leagues and standings How the tables work, divisions, and promotion and relegation.
What are divisions, and which one am I in?

Each month the players in a competition are split into divisions, like a football league pyramid, and you play for your place against the others in your division. Everyone who joins starts in the bottom division and climbs from there.

How do promotion and relegation work?

In a normal month, the top predictors in each division will be promoted to the next division, and the bottom predictors will be relegated.

You move one division at a time, once the month is over and all of its matches have been scored.

A month without predictions still counts: you finish at the bottom of your division, and can be relegated.

We may also decide to increase or decrease the size of the divisions, depending upon the total number of people predicting in the league at that time. Should this be necessary, then promotion and relegation issues could be affected. As a rule, we aim to have no more than 30% of current predictors in the bottom division.

What are the different tables?

The month table is your division, and it decides promotion and relegation. The week table is just that week's matches, and the season table adds up the whole season.

What happens when players are level on points?

If two people are level on points their position in the table will be determined by goal difference.

Goal Difference

  • For each incorrect number of goals you predict per team, you lose the difference in goals. e.g. you predict 3 and the team scores 2, you get -1 goals.
  • For each correct team's number of goals you score, you receive a positive goal difference based on the following scale:
    • You predict 0 or 1 goals and the team scores 0 or 1, you receive +1 goal difference.
    • You predict 2 goals or more and the team scores that number, you receive double the number of goals predicted, ie. you predict 3 and the team scores 3, you get +6 goal difference.

Fixtures and results Kick-off times, postponed matches, and results that are wrong or missing.
What time do matches kick off?

Kick-off times are shown in your own time zone. If they look out by an hour or more, check the time zone on your profile.

We will always attempt to ensure that all kick-off times are correct, and all other information is as accurate as possible. However, if any player attempts to profit from an inaccuracy by altering predictions after a game has begun, their prediction for that game will be declared null and void.

Change my time zone

What happens if a match is postponed?

Your prediction stays with the match. While it waits for a new date you can still change it, and once it is rearranged it stays open until the new kick-off.

If a match is abandoned and replayed, it opens again for predictions until the replay kicks off.

A result is wrong or missing. What should I do?

Scores and kick-off times come in automatically from a third-party provider. A result usually arrives within a few minutes of the final whistle, with points straight after, and a rearranged match normally moves to its new date within a day.

If a score is still wrong an hour after full time, or a match is missing, write and say which match it is and what is wrong with it.

Mini-leagues Your own table with friends, family or workmates: joining, creating and running one.
What is a mini-league?

A table of your own with the people you choose, made from the predictions you already enter. There is nothing extra to predict, and you can be in as many as you like.

How do I join one?

Ask someone in it for the league's six-digit code or its share link. Enter the code under "Join a League", or just open the link. Public leagues can be joined straight from the list on the same page.

How do I create one?

Choose "Create a League", give it a name, and decide whether it appears in the list of public leagues. Then send the code or the share link to the people you want in it.

How do I run my league?

As the owner, use the "Setup" menu on your league's page to change its settings, share it, and look after its members: you can remove someone, or ban them so they cannot rejoin. You can make other members co-owners to help you, or hand the league over to someone else.

How do I leave or delete a league?

Any member except the owner can leave from the "Setup" menu. An owner who wants to go should hand the league over first; a league can only be deleted once nobody else is in it.

If the owner has not been seen for a year, a long-standing member can claim the league and keep it going.

Trophies and challenges Trophies, achievements, and head-to-head challenges against other players.
How do I win a trophy?

The top 10 finishers in each division will be awarded a trophy at the end of the month. In addition, the top 10 people in the overall standings will be awarded a trophy come the end of the season.

What are trophy points?

Each trophy is worth "trophy points" in order to calculate the trophy standings. Finishing top of the division is worth 10 points, down to finishing 10th which is worth 1 point. Points for trophies in the overall table are doubled - so first place is worth 20 points and 10th place is worth 2.

How do challenges work?

You can issue or accept challenges from other players, in which your predictions are directly compared for a selection of fixtures during a week. The fixtures that actually count are chosen by the challenger.

What is the difference between a league challenge and a friendly?

You can issue "league" challenges in a season, and you are awarded 3 points for a win, 1 point for a draw and 0 for a defeat. All users are then given a position in the "Challenge" table, based upon the number of challenge points they've accrued over the course of the season. If people are level on points they will be separated by goal difference. Goal difference is calculated based upon how much you won your challenge by - so if you win a challenge by 7 points to 6 you will accrue a positive goal difference of 1.

You can also issue an unlimited number of "friendly" challenges during the season - these work in the same way but points earned will not count towards your standing in the challenge league.

What are achievements?

Badges for things you have done with your predictions, from a good week to a climb through the divisions. They appear on your profile, and the Achievements table under Standings shows how everyone compares.
